<image:title>Theresa's Tapestries by Theresa Carpenter - Fair Care for Every Military Family - Impossible Choices. This policy doesn't just cost money - it derails lives. Young military dependents face brutal choices their civilian peers never consider: Go uninsured during a critical transition period. Take the first job offering coverage, regardless of whether it fits their career path or education. Or watch their parents, who've already sacrificed so much, struggle under thousands in unexpected healthcare costs. Austin Carrigg, Chief Executive Officer of Exceptional Military Families, explains what this means for her son Christian: "It would be financial security for him now and his future, and it would mean that I don't have to worry about him not being able to afford it or us having to come up with the money... My fear is him getting burdened by debt at such a young age that he's not going to be able to get out of. And it's going to affect the rest of his future." The irony is bitter: many young military dependents who cannot afford TRICARE Young Adult end up qualifying for Medicaid instead. We're not saving money - we're just shifting costs from the Department of Defense to other federal programs while adding bureaucratic barriers and coverage gaps that harm the very families who've already given so much. Consider the recent college graduate pursuing an unpaid internship in their field. The military kid can't afford it - they need immediate employer coverage. Their civilian friend? No problem. They're covered until 26. Or the young adult taking a gap year to volunteer, travel, or figure out their path. The military kid either stays home or risks going uninsured. Their civilian classmate? Fully covered. This isn't a minor oversight. It's a systemic injustice that penalizes the very families who've already paid the highest price.</image:title>

<image:title>Theresa's Tapestries by Theresa Carpenter - An Open Letter to the Navy Public Affairs Community - My Story On January 29, 2024, while still serving as an active-duty Public Affairs Officer, I posted a respectful video on my civilian LinkedIn account. In it, I criticized the Navy's decision to eliminate the requirement for a G.E.D. or high school diploma for enlistment. I shared my own journey of overcoming adversity to earn my diploma, hoping to contextualize my concerns and spark professional dialogue about maintaining force standards. Instead of discussion, I got retaliation. Within hours, two senior Navy Public Affairs leaders responded—one with a sarcastic comment directly on LinkedIn that invited pile-on attacks from others. Capt. Jodie Cornell, a uniformed PAO serving as Public Affairs Chief at Personnel Command publicly belittled me, dismissing my concerns by stating I wasn't "in the room" when the decision was made. When I reached out to her privately on Instagram to explain my rationale, she told me to stay focused on my assigned duties and refrain from public commentary. That same day, Dave Werner, a senior civilian from CHINFO called me directly. He reminded me of my duties as a Navy communicator to echo the Navy party line—or "find employment elsewhere." Out of fear for my future, I removed the video. A week later, my orders to Pensacola were rescinded without explanation. Only later was it implied by my head detailer that the Navy wanted someone "more bought in" to its recruiting policies.</image:title>

<image:title>Theresa's Tapestries by Theresa Carpenter - When Military Courts Fail: Wrongful Convictions, Sexual Assault, and the Demand for Reform</image:title>
<image:caption>Mark Martell is a retired United States Air Force veteran with over 20 years of decorated service, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, and the UAE. After being wrongfully convicted under the current military justice system, Mark has become a passionate advocate for reform. Drawing on personal experience, he speaks out about the urgent need for fairness, accountability, and truth in military courts—emphasizing that justice must protect both survivors of sexual assault and the wrongfully accused. Mark champions reforms such as unanimous verdicts in courts-martial, independent prosecutors free from command influence, and conviction integrity review boards. Through writing, public speaking, and advocacy, he is committed to building a justice system that is strong enough to protect survivors and fair enough to defend the innocent.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - From Battlefield to Ballot Box with Dr. Trei McMullen</image:title>
<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS DR. TREI MCMULLEN? Trei McMullen is a U.S. Army combat veteran, former counterintelligence professional, entrepreneur, and political candidate known for his focus on continued service after the military—particularly through civic leadership and community impact. He served roughly nine years in the Army, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and later worked in counterintelligence in support of Special Forces operations. His military career was cut short due to a service-related medical condition, which led to his transition out of active duty. After leaving the military, McMullen continued working in national security as a contractor on high-level assignments overseas. During that time, he also founded a company called SIOTUS (“See You On The Other Side”), aimed at creating opportunities and honoring fellow service members, particularly those lost in combat or affected by issues like opioid addiction. In addition to his business work, he pursued higher education in fields like homeland security, emergency management, and global security, building a foundation for public service. McMullen later entered politics, running as a candidate for the Florida House of Representatives. His platform centers on: Community and school safety Veteran advocacy Government accountability Civic responsibility and leadership His decision to run was heavily influenced by personal experiences involving threats to his children’s school safety, which pushed him to take a more direct role in shaping policy. At his core, Trei McMullen represents a growing group of veterans who view public office as a continuation of their service—bringing real-world experience, leadership under pressure, and a mission-driven mindset into government.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS EDDIE PEOPLES? Eddie Peoples is a retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class and veteran of more than two decades of military service who specialized in global logistics and transportation management. Serving primarily as an 88N Transportation Management Coordinator, he was responsible for coordinating the movement of troops, equipment, and military cargo worldwide, later transitioning into roles as a military instructor and installation administrator during overseas assignments. After retiring from the Army in 2024, Peoples settled in the Philippines with his family. He became publicly known following the tragic death of his son, Private Kioni Peoples, whose case raised questions about trauma care decisions and organ donation protocols. Since then, Peoples has spoken openly about his family’s experience, advocating for transparency and informed conversations around medical decision-making during critical care situations.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Son Said No! Grieving Army Dad Speaks Out | Eddie Peoples - The Accident</image:title>
<image:caption>On January 27, 2026, Kioni Peoples was involved in a motorcycle accident in Bakersfield, California. He was airlifted to a trauma center in Las Vegas. The initial information given to the family was cautiously optimistic. Doctors described serious injuries but reassured the family that, because of Kioni’s age and physical condition, recovery was likely. His injuries included broken femurs, fractured ribs, a shattered arm, spinal damage, and head trauma. They were severe injuries—but injuries that, at least initially, sounded survivable. Eddie received the call while in the Philippines. Within hours he began arranging travel, eventually booking a 28-hour journey to reach his son. For any parent, the instinct is simple: get there as fast as possible. But while he was traveling, the situation began to change.</image:caption>

Tyler Hoover is a U.S. Army veteran, former 82nd Airborne paratrooper, and onetime Florida police officer who later became a media entrepreneur and podcast host. After serving in Iraq during the surge years, he transitioned into law enforcement before launching the Antihero Broadcast, a platform known for blunt, irreverent commentary on military culture, politics, media narratives, and veteran issues. Positioning himself as an “antihero” rather than a polished public figure, Hoover built an audience around unfiltered conversations that challenge institutional orthodoxy and celebrity-veteran culture. In recent years, he has drawn wider attention amid a high-profile defamation lawsuit tied to public commentary, placing him at the center of debates over free speech, accountability, and the legal risks facing independent media creators.</image:caption>

Jane Babcock is a retired U.S. Army and Army Reserve veteran and longtime accredited Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who has spent more than a decade helping former service members navigate the Department of Veterans Affairs disability system. With four DD-214s and a service history that includes both active duty and reserve components, she transitioned after her military career into county-level veteran advocacy, where she assisted with over a thousand VA claims. Known for her practical, inside-the-system perspective, Babcock has spoken publicly about gaps in veteran awareness, the complexity of presumptive conditions, and the difference between isolated fraud and widespread misunderstanding of benefits. Her work centers on education, access, and ensuring veterans understand the resources available to them.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS BRIAN TALLY? Brian Tally is a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, author, and veteran advocate whose life was permanently altered by severe medical malpractice at a Department of Veterans Affairs facility. After a misdiagnosed spinal infection nearly killed him and left him permanently disabled, Tally uncovered a decades-old legal loophole that allowed the VA to admit error while avoiding accountability. Rather than retreat, he drafted and lobbied Congress on legislation—collectively known as the Tally Bill—that helped close that loophole and restore legal recourse for veterans harmed by VA negligence. He is also the creator of a long-running podcast dedicated to amplifying veterans’ voices and exposing systemic failures that impact those who serve.</image:caption>

Major Clarence Anderson III is a former U.S. Air Force logistics readiness officer whose more than 20-year career included multiple deployments, two command tours, and senior roles supporting U.S. Special Operations forces. Commissioned in 2001, he served across fuel operations, transportation, contingency planning, and large-scale logistical movements, earning a reputation for competence in high-pressure, complex environments. His career ended following a court-martial stemming from a domestic accusation that civilian authorities declined to prosecute, raising broader questions about due process, command pressure, and the handling of sexual assault cases within the military justice system. Since his conviction, Anderson’s case has been cited in discussions about institutional accountability, readiness, and the balance between victim advocacy and the rights of the accused.</image:caption>

A graduate of the elite School of Advanced Warfighting and a Foreign Area Officer, Khan possessed the rare cultural and linguistic expertise required to lead the first Marine units into Afghanistan following 9/11. During Operation Enduring Freedom, he facilitated critical basing in Pakistan, reopened the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, and led historic combat engagements in the Afghan mountains. Khan is the author of Betrayal of Command, a memoir detailing his relief from command after clashing with senior leadership over institutional politics and the moral weight of duty. Today, through his platform Centennial 360, he advocates for systemic reform, merit-based leadership, and the bridge between military service and civic responsibility.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS RICK LAMBERTH? Rick Lamberth is a retired U.S. Army veteran and senior federal acquisition and logistics professional with more than four decades of combined military and civilian service. Over his career, he served as an enlisted infantryman, commissioned officer, and later as a high-level civilian program and contracting oversight specialist, including assignments in Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Pentagon. Lamberth became known for his insistence on ethical contracting practices, accurate reporting, and strict adherence to federal acquisition law, even when doing so placed him in conflict with senior leadership. His later career was marked by whistleblower activity and alleged retaliation after he raised concerns about improper contracting behavior, abuse of authority, and systemic failures in Department of Defense oversight.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS HEATHER BAKER? Heather Baker is a Gold Star mother, educator, and military accountability advocate whose son, U.S. Army PFC Caleb Smither, died while on active duty at Fort Bragg due to medical negligence and systemic leadership failures. A former art and special education teacher with more than two decades in education, Baker became an advocate after uncovering serious inconsistencies, redactions, and omissions in the Army’s investigation into her son’s death from acute bacterial meningitis. Refusing to accept silence or institutional deflection, she has worked with members of Congress, supported other Gold Star families—especially those affected by non-combat deaths—and pushed for reforms focused on soldier welfare, medical accountability, and leadership responsibility. Through initiatives like the Smitty Check, Baker speaks for fallen service members and challenges blind patriotism in favor of transparency, human connection, and justice.</image:caption>

Donald “Don” Vandergriff is a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer, former U.S. Army armor officer, military historian, and prominent critic of the U.S. military’s personnel, promotion, and leadership development systems. After serving in both the Marine Corps and the Army, including operational and training assignments, he became known for challenging the military’s industrial-era, zero-defect culture and its reliance on metrics, scripted training, and PowerPoint-driven assessments. Vandergriff has advised senior military leaders, worked as a historian and contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan, and spent decades advocating for outcome-based training, mission command, and adaptive leadership. He is the author of several influential books, including The Path to Victory series, which argue that meaningful military reform must begin with changing how leaders are selected, educated, and promoted.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS DAN WILSON? Dan Wilson is a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel and combat infantry officer who served nearly four decades in uniform, rising from the enlisted ranks to senior command. He deployed 11 times, led Marines in combat from Desert Storm through Iraq, and commanded at the platoon, company, and battalion levels, earning a reputation for credibility, leadership, and institutional trust. Late in his career, while being considered for promotion to brigadier general, Wilson was falsely accused of sexual assault, leading to a high-profile court-martial. His felony conviction was later overturned and dismissed with prejudice by the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Criminal Appeals for factual and legal insufficiency. Wilson is the author of Undaunted Gladiator, which chronicles his ordeal and examines the failures of the military justice system, due process, and accountability when political pressure overrides evidence.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Are Disability Benefits Backfiring with Army Lt. Col (ret) Daniel Gade</image:title>
<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS DANIEL GADE? Daniel Gade was born in Minot, North Dakota, into a family where service was part of the fabric of life. His father was an Army veteran; his mother, a committed patriot. His middle name—MacArthur—was no accident. Gade enlisted in the Army Reserve at 17, attended basic training while still in high school, and was later accepted to West Point, graduating in 1997. The Army was not merely a job for Gade; it was a vocation. He thrived as a platoon leader and company commander, ultimately deploying to Iraq, where he would be wounded twice in combat and lose his right leg. Yet even after catastrophic injury, Gade chose to remain on active duty. He went on to serve more than a decade longer—teaching at West Point, shaping policy at the White House, advising the VA, and eventually serving as Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Veterans Services. By the time he retired, Gade had spent over 25 years in uniform. He had seen the military and veterans’ systems from the inside out.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS CLAYTON SIMMS? Clayton Simms is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, former federal employee, and prominent advocate for veterans navigating the VA disability system. After serving ten years in the Marine Corps—eight active duty and two in the reserves—he became frustrated with the bureaucratic challenges and lack of guidance many veterans face when filing disability claims. His experiences, including multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, combined with his background in psychological operations, gave him a unique perspective on systems, messaging, and navigating complex processes. After separating from the military, Clayton initially worked as a contractor and later as a GS-13 federal employee. During that time, he began helping fellow veterans understand and submit VA disability claims, recognizing that many were being exploited by private consultants charging high fees for information veterans could access themselves. To expand his reach, Clayton launched a YouTube channel focused on educating veterans about VA claims, providing clear guidance and resources to help them advocate for themselves. Today, he works full-time on this platform, empowering veterans to navigate the VA system confidently, file claims independently, or approach VSOs fully informed. In short, Clayton Simms is a veteran, educator, and advocate dedicated to demystifying the VA disability process and ensuring veterans receive the benefits they’ve earned.</image:caption>

Forrest Mize is a retired U.S. Navy Naval Flight Officer whose unconventional path took him from high school dropout and construction worker to a 20-year career flying and commanding missions aboard the E-2C Hawkeye, one of the Navy’s most complex aircraft. He served on five aircraft carriers and across some of the world’s most demanding assignments, including combat operations during Desert Storm and Kosovo, counter-narcotics missions in Central America, counter-terrorism in Africa, and disaster response and recovery efforts. Known for taking hard, unpopular duty stations and for speaking up when others stayed silent, Mize’s career included being involuntarily separated from the Navy, recalled to active duty a month later, and later confronting corruption at his final duty station—an ordeal that led to investigations and charges that were ultimately dropped. He is the author of Hard Fills: Sea Stories from a High School Dropout Career Naval Flight Officer, where he chronicles leadership, accountability, and the cost of integrity in military service.</image:caption>

His career ended following a controversial misconduct case in which he was acquitted of the major allegations, leaving only a stop-sign violation, a situation that has since fueled broader conversations about due process and systemic flaws in the military justice system.</image:caption>

She began her career with the Toledo Police Department, where she spent her first 10 years in a clerical position before graduating from the police academy in 1985. From there, she served 20 years as a street patrol officer, gaining firsthand experience in investigations, evidence handling, and the judicial process. That background makes Holly’s current battle even more complex. She is not just the mother of a convicted man — she is a trained law enforcement professional who believes that her son’s case reveals deep flaws in how the military justice system operates. Holly’s son, Robert Condon, was once a model servicemember — a man who dreamed from childhood of wearing the uniform and living up to his family’s military legacy. Now, Holly is fighting to share his story and expose what she describes as a failure of due process that destroyed his life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>GUEST BIO: WHO IS JOHN FRANKMAN? John Frankman is a former U.S. Army Green Beret Captain from the 7th Special Forces Group who became known for standing by his moral and religious convictions during the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Before joining the military, Frankman’s path was deeply shaped by faith — he converted to Catholicism and spent four years in seminary discerning the priesthood and chaplaincy. Ultimately, he chose to serve his country in uniform, completing some of the Army’s most grueling training programs, including Ranger School, Airborne School, Military Freefall, and the Special Forces Qualification Course. In 2023, after refusing the COVID vaccine on moral and religious grounds, Frankman was forced out of the Army, despite his strong record and leadership as a Green Beret officer. His decision stemmed from concerns about the ethical implications of the vaccine’s development and what he viewed as violations of informed consent and religious freedom.</image:caption>

Erhan Bedestani is a retired U.S. Army officer, attorney, and family law advocate who has dedicated his post-military career to exposing and reforming systemic bias against service members in the family court system. After 21 years of distinguished service in the Army—including deployments and leadership roles in both air defense artillery and special forces—Erhan retired in 2023 and transitioned into law, focusing on advocacy for military families navigating custody and divorce disputes. He is the founder of the nonprofit Warrior Family Advocacy, an organization that works to protect the parental rights of service members and veterans. His mission is to highlight how family courts and military administrative systems—particularly the Family Advocacy Program (FAP)—often disadvantage military parents due to deployments, relocations, or misconceptions about mental health and readiness. Through his research, legal scholarship, and public speaking, including publications in the Family Court Review and Military Law Review, Erhan has become a leading voice on how procedural flaws in military and family court systems contribute to emotional distress, financial hardship, and even veteran suicide. He combines legal expertise, lived experience, and compassion to push for reforms that ensure fairness, due process, and dignity for those who’ve served their country—both in uniform and at home.</image:caption>

Andy Lindstrom served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps before joining the Nevada National Guard, where he worked both as a Guardsman and a state IT employee in Carson City. His civilian role involved maintaining electronic security systems for weapons vaults and surveillance servers, critical to base operations. But Lindstrom’s story isn’t one of a quiet technician. It’s a story of a man who saw corruption — and refused to look away. He witnessed patterns of fraternization, sexual harassment cover-ups, and payroll fraud involving senior Guard personnel and state employees. When he tried to report these issues, the system didn’t thank him. It turned against him. Within months, Lindstrom was terminated under vague claims that he “wasn’t a good fit.” What followed was a three-year legal odyssey, where he represented himself pro se — without an attorney — against the combined resources of the Nevada Attorney General’s Office and Nevada National Guard legal staff.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Keith Barry is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL Senior Chief who served for over 25 years, including deployments to Iraq, Kosovo, and South America. Known for his leadership and operational expertise, Barry’s career took a dramatic turn when he was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ)—a conviction later overturned by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces due to prosecutorial misconduct and unlawful command influence. Barry now speaks publicly about flaws in the military justice system, veteran advocacy, and the human cost of wrongful convictions. His appearance on Theresa Carpenter’s Stories of Service podcast highlights his ongoing fight to restore his reputation, benefits, and to push for reforms that ensure fairness for all service members.</image:caption>

Her path shifted when a Marine recruiter sparked her interest, leading her to commission as an officer after earning a Division I softball scholarship. At the same time, Riley pursued a spot on Team USA’s bobsled team, balancing the demands of elite competition with her active-duty role. Over five years, Riley competed internationally in bobsled, earning a world ranking of 14th, winning a North American Cup gold medal, and representing the United States in World Championships. Her journey also took her to Baghdad, where she deployed as one of the youngest officers to hold a billet typically reserved for higher ranks. Just days after returning from combat, she was back on the ice competing on one of the fastest tracks in the world. Her impact extends beyond athletics and service. Riley is the author of If You Can Dream It, Be It, a children’s book that became a bestseller in 2024. She is also a two-time Ms. Military titleholder, game show winner, and public speaker who uses her growing platform to inspire others to chase their own dreams.</image:caption>
